Fierté Simcoe Pride Week is a ten-day event held in Simcoe County, Ontario, during the end of July/beginning of August each year. It is a celebration of the diversity of the LGBT community in Simcoe County. It is one of the larger regional gay pride festivals in Canada, featuring flag raisings and proclamations from across the County, a fun festival, educational events, health and wellness day, and a large signature closing event. In 2014, the County participated in pride week for the first time, making 2014 one of Simcoe Pride's largest festivals since forming. ==Leadership and Organization== Pride Week and year round events are run by Fierté Simcoe Pride, a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization. The mission of Fierté Simcoe Pride is to "create and offer inclusive events, services, and educational opportunities that rise above heterosexism, hetero-normativity and homo/bi/transphobia, providing a safe community within Simcoe County." 〔("Simcoe Pride - About Us" ) ''Simcoe Pride'' .〕 The organization also has a list of objectives and values that it uses as guidelines: Objectives: * To empower community members to develop meaningful personal and professional skills, and relationships; * To provide LGBTA education opportunities; creating a positive, inclusive, and safe space for all; * To create opportunities to rise above heterosexism, hetero-normativity and homo/bi/transphobia; and * To organize an annual Pride Week in Simcoe County. 〔("Simcoe Pride - By-Laws as of May 31, 2014" ) ''Simcoe Pride''.〕 Values: * Respectful - Recognizing and acknowledging the involvement and contributions of everyone. Managing this with fiscal responsibility and foresight, we will ensure the viability of the organization and the fulfillment of its mission. * Equitable - Valuing diversity by accepting and respecting differences and by working to understand the diverse cultural complexities that influence identity, assumptions, behaviours, expectations, and beliefs. All thoughts, ideas, and hopes shall be acknowledged and valued. * Inspirational - Engaging our communities to participate in events and facilitate the community development through the celebration of diversity. As well as honouring our past in remembrance of the struggles and successes, we shall protect our future by reaching out, educating and defending our right to celebrate. Fierté Simcoe Pride is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors, who handle the finances, logistics and operations of the organization and events. They also oversee the long-term vision, objectives and values. In addition, volunteers are involved in running the events.
